| Rearing |
Rearing is when a horse stand on a his hind legs with both forelegs in the air. |
| Refusal |
Failure to jump an obstacle in a show jumping or eventing competition because the horse stops or tries to run around the obstacle. Refusals are considered the fault of the rider and incurs faults |
| Reins |
Reins are leather straps or rope attached to the outer ends of a bit that extend to the rider's or driver's hands, allowing them to give commands known as rein aids. |
| Renvers |
A movement used in dressage, also called 'haunches-out'. The horse is bent in the direction of movement with the forehand away from the track and the hindquarters bent towards the arena wall. This is work on three tracks: the outside hind leg creates one track, the outside foreleg and inside hind leg create the second track and the inside foreleg creates the third track. |
