A martingale is an artificial aid which prevents a horse from throwing his head up. I is a leather strap that goes from the girth to the bridle underneath the chin. |
| Maternal immunity |
Temporary immunity that is passed from the mare to the foal via the uterus and/or after birth via the colostrum and milk. Maternal immunity serves to protect the foal until its own immune system becomes fully opperational.
