| Canter |
This is the horse term for a three beat gait. The horse will lead with one front leg and drive with the opposing rear leg. In the canter there is a period when all legs of the horse are off the ground (suspension). |

The build of a horse. The physical structure of horse. Each horse breed has its own conformation. |
| Crossrail |
A crossrail consists of two poles crossed on jump standards so that the center is lower than the sides. This is a typical fence for beginners and is not often used in horse jumping competitions.
